Home Is Where You Do Your Laundry [Feb. 6th, 2007|06:20 pm]
I went home over the weekend to pick up a few things and to take a trip to the dentist office, clean bill of health by the way. Two weeks away from home and the first thing I ate when I got back was a packet of ramen noodles. I haven’t had to eat them since moving, but my parent’s fridge was overstocked, so there wasn’t mutch of a choice.

I also got caught up with Battlestar Galactica while I was home. The conclusion of the midseason cliffhanger was satisfactory and I am very pleased with what’s happening with Baltar.

I signed up for the Cooper blood drive last week. For the longest time I avoided giving blood because of my fear of sharp objects, which I was able to overcome thanks to an offer of free food for the donors. Unfortunately, it turns out that I am not able to give blood because of an excessive amount of time spent in England during my youth. Oh well.

Also, I did my laundry.

An Item of Interest From My Email [Nov. 27th, 2006|04:56 pm]
"In late 2000, the internal newsletter of Statistics Canada ran two items about "terms of venery" (as opposed to terms of endearment, the latter sometimes leading to things venereal rather than things venerial) and challenged readers to find venerial terms for people and things at the national stats agency. Here are a few that people came up with.

Statisticians: a sample (or sampling) of statisticians, a measure of statisticians

Clerks: a file of clerks

Project managers: a pride of project managers

Analysts: a digest of analysts, a tally of analysts

Assistant Chief Statisticians: a huddle of ACS's

Librarians: a binding of librarians, an encyclopedia of librarians, an archive of librarians

Mathematicians: A notation of mathematicians

Elevators: an expectancy of elevators

Demographers: a cohort of demographers, a mob of demographers

Data: a deluge of data, an indigestion of data, a cauldron of data

Methodologists: a madness of methodologists, an asylum of methodologists

Economists: a prediction of economists, a depression of economists

Sociologists: a scatter of sociologists

Programmers: a crunch of programmers

Pollsters: A limit of pollsters"

So what do you call a group of twenty somethings who have no idea what they are?

Tower Records is going out of business, I might feel sad if I weren’t board with most of my music and they weren’t having a going out of business sale. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Suburban Bumpkin [Sep. 21st, 2006|10:16 pm]
I was getting lunch at Au Bon Pain and the guy at the register asked me where I was from. I asked why he wanted to know and he told me that I had the “aura” of someone that wasn’t from around here.
